IDC Cable Assemblies
Wiringo uses advanced manufacturing and strict quality control to produce reliable, long-lasting IDC cable assemblies for a range of industries.
Our Clients
Insulation Displacement Connector (IDC) cables are widely used in computers, medical devices, and automotive electronics because they’re affordable, widely available, and enable fast, reliable connections between circuit boards and components.
Instead of crimping, stripping, or soldering, IDC cable assemblies use a tool-less connection method. Connector blades pierce the cable’s insulation to make direct contact with the wire. This is why they are also called Insulation-Piercing Contact (IPC) connectors.

Customization Options
Personalize your IDC cable assemblies with the following customization options:
| Length | We support both internal device (3, 6, 9, and 12 inches) and rack system lengths (2, 3, and 6 feet). We can also tailor the length to your specific requirements. | |
| Conductor | Fold | Straight-through: the cable runs completely flat with no folds. 180° fold/ backfold: The cable folds back onto itself near the connector attachment point. 90° fold: A right-angle band applied to cables that are meant to be routed around corners and connected to vertical connectors. Zig-Zag/Accordion Fold: We apply multiple folds to the cable, making it more compact so it can fit into tight spaces and dynamic applications. |
| Pitch | Standard pitch sizes are 0.64 mm (0.025”), 1.27 mm (0.050”), 2.00 mm (0.079”), and 2.54 mm (0.100”). Conductor count can range from 2 to 64. | |
| Plating | Tin, gold, silver, palladium, and or selective gold over nickel | |
| Insulation | Our cables use high-grade UL 20624-certified PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) insulation. We also provide a wide array of custom high-temperature options. | |
| Shielding/Grounding | We offer foil(aluminium), braided, and combination shielding. In addition to this, we support single-ended and double-ended grounding. If needed, we can add drain wires and connector grounding tabs to optimize your assembly’s grounding. | |
| Strain reliefs | Options include:
| |
| Connector | Types |
|
| Pinout | Dual Row:
| |
| Direction | Straight, Right-Angle, and Reverse Entry | |
Industry Applications
Wiringo’s IDC cable assemblies have been used in a wide variety of applications and industries.
Computer and Consumer Electronics
IDC cable assemblies are widely used in computers and other smart electronic devices. They mainly facilitate connections between Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) and components. Laptop makers and manufacturers use them to connect display screens and monitors.
Industrial Automation
IDC cable assemblies are vital for the future of manufacturing. They allow for signal and power distribution in Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and control panels. They also connect advanced Industrial IoT devices such as sensors, motion control systems, and actuators.
Medical Devices
Medical technology is another area where IDC cables have found widespread use. They can be found in electrocardiography (ECG or EKG) and imaging equipment. IDC cable assemblies also offer a compact solution for low-profile use cases, making them ideal for compact handheld devices such as blood glucose meters and pulse oximeters.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are IDC connectors reliable?
Despite using a mostly tool-less assembly, IDC connectors are remarkably reliable due to the connection process creating a gas-tight fit through cold-welding.
What is the lifespan of IDC connectors?
Less expensive tin-plated connectors can last up to 50 cycles, while the average lifespan of their more costly gold-plated counterparts can be as much as 500 cycles.
Can I request a sample before placing a bulk order?
Yes, Wiringo allows you to order samples before commissioning bulk orders for IDC cable assemblies.
What are the lead times for custom assemblies?
Lead times can vary based on several factors, such as the complexity of your design and its material makeup. Generally, custom IDC cable assemblies require more time to produce and thus have longer lead times than standard assemblies.
Can IDC connectors be reused?
No, IDC connectors cannot be reused. Although IDC connectors aren’t soldered onto conductors, they’re still bound together using cold-welding, where the sharp slits of the connector are pierced and pressed into the contacts of the wire. This makes it difficult to remove and reuse the connectors without damaging them.
