Custom Flat Flex Cable (FFC) Assemblies
With over a decade of experience, Wiringo delivers durable, high-quality FFC assemblies made from premium materials and rigorously inspected for performance.

Our Clients

Flat Flexible Cable (FFC), used as a connection between two components in a device, is an electrical cable that resembles a flat, thin ribbon. It can easily fit into the limited or tight spaces of modern devices, such as laptops, digital clocks, scanners, printers, mobile phones, LCD applications, and more. FFC can be nested and routed to form complete wire harnesses.
FFC connectors feature a Zero Insertion Force (ZIF) design that facilitates easy and secure connections. This makes the assembly connection process seamless, reducing the risk of damage to any of the contacts. A locking actuator can be integrated into the design to secure it against mechanical stress.
Products
We can customize FFC cable assembly with overmolded or integrated standard DF9 series connectors, stripped-end connections for direct soldering, or ZIF-compatible connectors.

FFC Assemblies with IDC ribbon connector
Leverages Insulation Displacement Connectors (IDCs) for quick, secure insertions and terminations.

FFC Assemblies with discrete wire connector
Allow for connections to individual wires, making them a versatile solution for industrial equipment, medical devices, and automotive systems.

FFC crimped with receptacle housing
Crimping provides a strong mechanical and electrical bond, making it ideal for high-stress applications.

ZIF Style FFC
A versatile, compact, and easy-to-install assembly, best suited for applications with extreme space constraints.

Overmolded flex cable assemblies
Overmolded strain reliefs help reduce mechanical stress and extend its lifespan.

FFC with latch-style receptacle housing
Features a latch mechanism that ensures firm connections and protects against decoupling in high-vibration environments.
Features
Our FFC assemblies are designed to:
- Facilitate reliable connections
- Withstand repeated flexing and bending
- Minimize signal interference
- Simplify installation
They also meet the following specifications:
- REACH, WEEE, and RoHS compliance
- Strict use of UL-listed materials
- Adherence to FPDI-1 and VESA standards
Customization Options
Wiring offers the following customization options:
Length | Standard lengths (3, 6, 9, and 12 inches); To your specific and unique length requirements. |
|
Conductor | Fold | Accordion folds: Enable the cable to expand and collapse, making it ideal for devices with moving or adjustable components. Coil forming: A spiral-like form factor that is best for spring mechanisms like clock springs and sliding drawers. Z-Folds: A space-saving configuration where your FFCs are mechanically folded into a flat Z-like shape. Custom angled folds: Similar to the Z-folds configuration but with more bends, designed to address the space and routing constraints of your device. Heat-formed folds: Each fold is made more precise and set using controlled heat. |
Pitch | 0.5 mm with 6–80 conductors for more dense connections 1.0 mm with 4–50 conductors for mechanical robustness |
|
Plating | Flat tin or gold-plated copper conductor | |
Insulation | Cables are manufactured using UL 20624-certified PET material. On request, we can also provide cables with high-temperature options. |
|
Shielding/Grounding | Aluminum lamination Silver epoxy for additional protection against EMI A drain wire for OEM projects within product applications |
|
Strain reliefs | Overmolded Integrated |
|
Connector | Types | Cable-to-cable configurations; Cable-to-board connections |
Pinout | One-to-one; Reverse |
|
Direction | Both out, both in, and/or one out connector directions |
Industry Applications
Wiringo has manufactured flat flex cables for a range of applications in various industries.

Automotive Systems
FFC assemblies connect dashboard displays, advanced driver-assistance systems, battery management systems, lighting systems, and more. Each use case requires FFC assemblies with varying current-carrying capacities and dimensions.

IoT and Smart Devices
Smartphones and wearable devices depend on miniature, fine-pitched FFCs to function correctly. As the industry continues to evolve and advance, the need for custom, lightweight, and compact cables will only increase.

Robotics
FFC assemblies are perfect for connecting motors and sensors in robotic controls and appendages. In such a motion-based, space-limited application, they are bend-resistant, lightweight, and well-shielded.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between an FFC and an FPC?
Flat flexible cables (FFCs) provide straightforward single transmission between components, circuits, or devices. In contrast, flexible printed circuits (FPCs) are complete circuits that can be used to process, control, or manipulate digital and electrical signals.
How to determine the required pitch size for an FFC?
You can determine the pitch size by referring to the application requirements. High-density compact designs, such as smartphones, require fine-pitched cables (0.3 to 0.5 mm), while applications that demand higher current-carrying capacity, like industrial equipment, use cables with larger pitch sizes (1.0 mm or greater).
Can I request a sample before placing a bulk order?
Yes, you can request a sample from Wiringo before you finalize your custom FFC bulk order.
What are the lead times for custom assemblies?
Custom FFC assembly lead times can vary based on several factors, including the complexity of the design and material requirements. Custom FFC assemblies tend to have longer lead times than their standard counterparts.
What is the difference between standard and custom FFC assemblies?
Standard FFC assemblies adhere to fixed specifications and are ideal for common applications. In contrast, custom FFC assemblies are tailored to your specific needs, making them suitable for new products and specialized applications.
